Still loving the Sunday School Lady! I sometimes think MY job is big, but rebuilding the walls like Nehemiah, in a day and age with no skid-loaders, no cranes, now THAT'S a big job!
As I get ready to head back to my "real job" of teaching 2nd grade, how perfect that the story for Children's Church is of Josiah, an 8 year old king! So hard to imagine my little students being crowned as the king, but oh the faith of Josiah!
Make a Bible Scroll Craft - Cut a brown paper bag into a long rectangle. Scrunch the paper up. Smooth it out (using a rolling pin is fun). Continue to scrunch and smooth the paper several times until wrinkles cover much of the paper. For the final time, smooth the paper out and paint with brown watercolor. Let dry. Curl the ends of the paper around a pencil and tightly roll to create the scroll effect. If the rectangle is cut extremely long, you may also wrap and glue the paper around paper towel rolls. Write a verse or thought on the scroll to match the Bible story. (Found on http://www.abcjesuslovesme.com)
How silly it seems to us to worship a statue! But how many of us have other "things" in our life that we "worship" or put before God? This is a lesson in how important it is to keep God first and serve Him!
Game Ideas
Hot Potato (A circle game): Pass a beanbag, ball or potato around the circle
while you sing a song, or play some music. When the song ends or the music
stops, whoever has the potato says something nice to the person next to him or
her. Then they get to go in the middle of the circle, "heaven" (where people go
who know how to love other people.) Continue playing until everyone is in the
middle of the circle.
What kid doesn't love the story of David Defeating Goliath!?! A small boy with God on his side who willingly took on the big bully and won! God is SO good!
Craft Ideas Ears headband plus a nice lesson plan idea, too
Game ideas Guess What You Hear game from Kids' Sunday School Place
Play Simon Says. The kids really have to listen to see whether to stand still or obey the request. Talk about how we should listen to God and obey Him.
